New Born Services

  • The Pediatric Group of Acadiana would first like to welcome the latest addition to your family, and we look forward to taking care of your newborn’s medical needs. While your infant is in the hospital, we will be examining him/her daily, and will make every effort to answer any questions you may have.

  • Whenever a family opens its doors to a new baby, some major adjustments are sure to follow. Babies occupy both time and space. An adequately sized home or apartment may all of a sudden seem too small as the baby and his/her equipment move in. The spare time that a mother used to enjoy is suddenly in short supply.

  • Your baby is a person who just for a short while will be a baby. Then, very quickly, your baby will move on to the next stage of his development.

  • The Pediatric Group hopes to be here for you from birth to adulthood. So again, with open arms and open hearts, we welcome you to our practice.

  • There should ALWAYS be someone to answer the phone, whether it is the office or the answering service, your call is important to us.  Checkups and/or physical exams should be scheduled in advance. If you have an emergency during office hours, please call on your way so that we may prepare for any specific emergency. We also offer After Hours care at our Broussard and New Iberia locations.

  • From the very start, your feelings about your child will be mixed. Mostly you will feel love, pleasure, and satisfaction as your baby grows and develops. You feel a burden of responsibility for protection, for teaching, and for guiding your child toward a realization of all his potential. It is natural to feel frustration or anger at one time or another. It is important to recognize these negative feelings and deal with them rather than venting them on the child.

  • A child’s self-esteem determines his adjustment of life. A healthy self-image includes a sense of confidence, a sense of belonging and a sense of worth. As parents we can give positive direction (rather than criticism), and a motivation of love (rather than of guilt). We can set reasonable limits, avoiding unrealistic regulations. We can teach a child to be careful without learning to be afraid. In these ways we help our children build healthy attitudes which last a lifetime.
